Life as an Intern by Kathryn Kaczmarski

Life as an intern has been an amazing ride so far.  I am learning so much.  Ever since I’ve started at Independence Empowerment Center (IEC), I feel so free and independent.  I have always wanted to see how it would feel to be out in the working world on my own.  My experience working here has given me the chance to do just that.

Everyone at IEC has made me feel so welcome.  As an intern, I answer phones and do clerical work for everyone in the office.  I get along with the staff very well.  I send out e-mails and have helped in organizing the office.  I have also been working on writing this article for the IEC newsletter.  The tasks that I do here are keeping me very busy.  The work that I have been given is helping me to improve my multitasking and office skills.

I would not mind working here at IEC in the future if they asked me back.  My experience here has been very rewarding.  The staff have made it an amazing experience as well.  I am so blessed to have the chance to work for IEC.  I have felt like my own person while I have been here.

Editor’s note:  IEC was please to get a call from the Transition Coordinator from Brentsville High School.  When asked if we would be willing to provide office experience to a High School senior, we were happy to say, “Yes.”  We gave Kat Kaczmarski the title of Intern, and her article speaks to her experience.
