What is a Service Facilitator? by Gretchen Fox

IEC, Inc. has Service Facilitators for the EDCD Waiver. This is a wonderful program that allows persons with disabilities the ability to receive personal care in the comfort of their own home. It is administered by DMAS (Department of Medical Assistant Services) and people who meet nursing home criteria and have Medicaid are eligible for the program.

Although the program allows an individual to hire who they want as a personal assistant (with some guidelines) it must be remembered that the process takes some time. There are a number of people involved in the program and each has their own part. For example: DMAS administers it, your local Health Department does a screening to determine a person’s eligibility, IEC/your Service Facilitator stays up-to-date on your health status, and the recipient is responsible for finding, hiring, and firing his/her personal attendants.

It must also be remembered that this is a consumer directed waiver, meaning the recipients should be able to manage their own care and manage their own employees. If this waiver is not for you, please contact your local Department of Social Services for other waivers and programs available.

If you are interested in the EDCD Waiver program or want more information, please contact IEC at 703-257-5400 Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm.

Your other Service Facilitator, Roberta, says hi and she hopes her medical leave will end soon. She misses you and is ready to return to work.
