The Merging of Two Paths by Andrew Coffron
I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to become a part of the Independence Empowerment Team, as your new Elderly & Disabled Consumer Directed Waiver Co-Facilitator and Community Action Specialist. I hope you will share in this enthusiasm. Allow me to give you a general idea of my background, and an idea of what I hope to accomplish while assisting the community’s involvement in the social, political, and economic movements of people with disabilities.
My background surrounds the education field with creating and forming Section 504 Agreements and Individual Education Plans in cooperation with schools, parents, and most importantly, students. I have been responsible for beginning community action groups to help advise government on changes requested by fellow citizens, For example, to create a “barrier-free” environment in a small town, we requested proper curb cuts within the town limits. The result was a prioritization of corners to be modified, and an implementation plan within the town’s budget.
My education includes human and family development, child psychology, behavior modification, education law, business law, marketing, and business management. This education background resulted in a bachelor’s of science in business management.
In my current position at IEC, I hope to continue to draw on my education in order to assist individuals in achieving their goals. Feel free to come in to the office so we may get acquainted. I look forward to meeting and working with you in the near future.
