IEC Library by Pat Scott
In a continuing effort to add to our libary, here are three books we hope you will find interesting:
Soon Will Come The Light “A View from Inside the Autism Puzzle” by Thomas A. McKean - McKean offers a fascinating insight into the world of autism. Diagnosed late in his teens, Tom has a unique ability to be in the word of autism, yet possess the communications skills to tell us what it feels like to be behind the “wall”.
No Pity - People with Disabilities Forging a New Civil Rights Movement by Joseph P. Shapiro. For those wanting to understand the background against which the Americans with Disabilities Act was framed, this is an excellent primer, and seasoned veterans of the movement will find within a refreshing review of the personalities and activities of the Disabilities Civil Rights Movement.
Too late to die young - nearly true tales from a life by Harriet McBryde Johnson. Born with a neuromuscular disease, Johnson has never been able to walk, dress, or bathe without assistance. With assistance, she passionately celebrates her life’s richness and pleasures and pursues a formidable career as an attorney and activist. Harriet McBryde Johnson defies every preconception about people with disabilities, and shows how a life, be it long or short, is a treasure of infinite value.
In addition to our reading library, we also have a number of disability related movies here at IEC!
