Growth & Expansion by Andrew Coffron

As spring brings new growth to the world, it also brings new growth to IEC.  In the coming weeks, I will begin to have office hours every Wednesday & Friday, at the offices of the Fauquier Community Action Committee (FCAC):  50 Sullivan Street, Suite A, Warrenton, Virginia, 20186, (540)347-7000, Ext. 113.  My voicemail and appointments within this office will be active as of 3:00pm, Friday, May 11, 2007.  This will give Fauquier County Residents a local point of contact for phone calls and appointments.

IEC will provide services to people with disabilities in the areas of peer counseling, assistive technology, and representation in community organizations.  Representation such as membership on the local Special Education Advisory Committee for the Fauquier County School Board will allow us to better assist members of Fauquier County as they guide their children through the educational system.  We will also be able to expand our Medicaid waiver program that allows people with disabilities to receive personal care in their own homes, not in nursing homes or other institutions.  We provide Service Facilitation, through the Elderly and Disabled Consumer Directed Personal Assistant Services Waiver, with which people with disabilities use Medicaid to help pay for a personal assistant and/or other care, that will give each individual the option to stay in their own home.

My aforementioned office hours in Fauquier County are, by necessity, by appointment only.  There will not be any other IEC staff at the office to answer any of your questions, and I will have many commitments in the field.  I do not want you to be disappointed to arrive at FCAC and not find anyone who can assist you, so please call for an appointment.

I am grateful to the Fauquier Community Action Committee, and Judy Mason, the Executive Director, for taking no small part in giving us the ability to more fully address the needs of the disability community in Fauquier County.  I look forward to seeing you soon!
